    Hi everyone,

I just have a general query regarding the meshing procedure in fluent mesher.

When we create a surface mesh, it is made up of triangle elements.

However, when we create the volume mesh depending on the mesh type (say polyhedral), I noticed that the surface mesh is also changing. Doesn’t this affect the surface mesh quality and the number of element checks we do just after creating the surface mesh? because from my understanding when we click generate mesh (in the end) the surface mesh is also changing or am I missing some concept?

    Best regards,

    Aditya

The surface mesh is always triangle mesh. But when you create volume mesh it uses the surface mesh to create the volume mesh and if you use polyhedra as the option then the triangles will merge to form a polyhedral shape. This is normal and the count etc. will change. It won’t have a major impact on the quality.
