Case Studies
Our Benchmark Projects
Explore a selection of benchmark CFD and multiphysics case studies that demonstrate Flowthermolab’s technical expertise and simulation accuracy. These publicly shared studies showcase our capability in solving complex engineering problems. More detailed industrial projects and advanced studies can be shared upon request during meetings.
Aero-Acoustics of Axial Fan (CAA & FWH comparison)
CFD-based aero-acoustic benchmarking of a low-pressure axial fan using URANS and DES. CAA and FWH methods evaluated for noise prediction, validating hybrid approaches for accurate aeroacoustics modelling and performance optimization.
CFD-based study of electric motor cooling using rotating oil jets
CFD-based study of electric motor cooling using rotating oil jets for direct ATF delivery to rotor magnets. Multiphase flow modeling involving AMR, VOF, and conjugate heat transfer methods ensure efficient thermal management and performance optimization.
Smoke and Heat Movement Analysis in an Underground Car Park Using FDS
CFD-based analysis of smoke and heat movement in an underground car park using the FDS solver. The study evaluates airflow dynamics, jet fan placement, and smoke propagation patterns to optimize ventilation design, ensure effective smoke control, and enhance fire safety performance.
Aerodynamics of Spitfire aircraft
The Transient CFD study of the Spitfire Mk VIII explores its aerodynamics, simulating a rotating propeller to capture time-varying aerodynamic forces such as lift, drag, and vortex formation, revealing unsteady flow behaviour around the aircraft.
CFD of Car Aerodynamics:
Car aerodynamics study of the Audi-BMW DrivAer benchmark using steady-state URANS and DES simulations with 44 million cells. The analysis captures driver influence and evaluates drag coefficient and wake structures for aerodynamic optimisation
CFD Simulation of Quadcopter with 6DOF and Overset Mesh
CFD simulation of a quadcopter using 6DOF motion modeling with overset mesh. The study captures dynamic flight behaviour, applying sliding mesh for rotor rotation to analyse aerodynamic forces, stability, and control during free movement.
CFD Simulation of NASA HECC Compressor Stage
CFD analysis of the NASA High-Efficiency Centrifugal Compressor (HECC) stage using ANSYS CFX. The study employs the MRF model with a Turbogrid-generated mesh, comparing numerical results with experimental data for accurate compressor performance prediction and validation.
Liquid jet in cross flow: Multiphase CFD coupling VOF <>DPM
A multiphase CFD approach combining VOF and DPM coupling captures jet breakup efficiently. Primary breakup and larger ligaments are resolved by VOF, while tiny unresolved droplets are modeled using DPM, ensuring higher accuracy with reduced computational time and cost.
